Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about Mazhali for parents, teachers, and school admins.

For Parents

How do I get access to Mazhali?

Your child’s school admin invites you by email. Click the link in the invitation email, create a free account, and your child is automatically linked. You don’t need to sign up yourself — wait for the invitation from your school.

I didn't receive my invitation email. What should I do?

Check your spam or junk folder first. If it’s not there, ask your school admin to resend the invitation — they can do this from your child’s profile in their dashboard. Make sure the admin has your correct email address.

Can I add more than one child to my account?

Yes. One Mazhali account can be linked to multiple children — even across different schools. Each school’s admin sends a separate invitation for each child. Once you accept, all your children appear in your app under the same login.

Can my spouse or co-parent also access our child's updates?

Yes. Your school admin can send a guardian invitation to any email address. Both of you will have full, equal access to your child’s daily reports, attendance, and feed posts — and both of you will receive push notifications. Multiple guardians per child are supported.

Where do I find my child's daily report?

Open the app, go to your home screen, and tap your child’s name. You’ll see today’s Daily Report if the teacher has posted it. You’ll also receive a push notification the moment the teacher publishes the report.

Can I download photos from the app?

Yes. Tap any photo to view it full-size, then tap the download icon to save it to your device’s camera roll. Photos are private — only parents of children tagged in the post can view or download them.

How do I submit a leave request for my child?

Go to the Calendar section in the app, tap “+ Leave Request”, select your child, choose the date(s) and reason (Sick or Vacation), add an optional note, and submit. Your child’s attendance is automatically marked as Excused — the teacher is notified but doesn’t need to approve anything.

Who can I message through Mazhali?

As a parent, you can send private messages to your child’s class teacher(s) and the school admin. You cannot message other parents. Tap the Messages tab, then the compose icon, to start a conversation.

Is Mazhali available on iPhone and Android?

Mazhali is available on Android — download it from the Google Play Store. An iPhone (iOS) app is coming soon.

In the meantime, you can use Mazhali on any device (including iPhone) through your mobile browser. Open the Mazhali link your school sent you in Safari or Chrome, log in, and tap “Add to Home Screen” to install it as a PWA — it works just like a native app, with no App Store download required.

What notifications will I receive?

You’ll receive push notifications when: your child’s attendance is marked, their daily report is ready, a teacher posts a feed update tagging your child, the school posts a new announcement, or a new calendar event is created. You’ll also be notified of new messages from the school.

For Teachers

How do I get access to Mazhali as a teacher?

Your school admin sends you an invitation by email. Click the link, create your account (or log in if you already have a Mazhali account from another school), and you’ll be linked to the class your admin assigned you to.

Can I be assigned to more than one class?

Yes. Your admin can assign you to multiple classes. You’ll see all your classes on your home screen and can switch between them to mark attendance, write reports, or post to the feed.

When should I mark attendance?

Mark attendance at the start of each school day. Once you mark a child, their parent receives a push notification immediately. You can update marks any time during the day — the last saved status is what the parent and admin see.

Do I need to approve parent leave requests?

No. When a parent submits a leave request, their child is automatically marked Excused in the attendance list — no action is needed from you. You receive a notification so you know in advance, but approval is not required.

Can I see who I've already written a daily report for today?

Yes. In your class view, children who have a report for today will show a checkmark or status indicator next to their name. Tap any child to open or edit their report.

Who can see the posts I make on the class feed?

Only the parents of children you tag in the post. If you tag three children, only their parents see the post. Other parents in the class do not see it unless their child is also tagged. School admins can always see all posts.

Can I message parents from other classes?

No. Messaging is scoped to your assigned classes. You can message the parents of any child in your class, and you can always message the school admin.

What happens if I miss posting a daily report?

Parents won’t receive a notification for that day, but the report slot stays open — you can post it retroactively. The report will be dated for the selected day regardless of when you post it.

Can I view a child's attendance history?

Yes. Open any child’s profile in your class and tap “Attendance”. You’ll see a full month-by-month record of their attendance statuses — Present, Absent, Late, or Excused. You can also view the whole class’s attendance at a glance from your class home screen.

For Admins

How do I register my school on Mazhali?

Go to https://mazhali.com and click “Start for Free”. Enter your school name, your name, email, and a password. Your school and admin account are created instantly — no waiting for approval. You can start creating classes and inviting staff right away.

How do I add teachers and assign them to classes?

Go to Staff → Invite Staff, enter the teacher’s email, select their role, and send. Once they accept, go to Classes → [Class Name] → Teachers → “+ Add Teacher” and select them from your staff list. A teacher can be assigned to multiple classes.

How do I invite parents?

First add the child to a class (Classes → [Class] → Children → “+ Add Child”). Then open the child’s profile and tap “Invite Guardian” — enter the parent’s email and send. Repeat for each guardian. You can invite multiple guardians per child.

What if a parent or teacher hasn't accepted their invitation?

Invitations expire after 7 days. Open the staff member or child’s guardian list and look for a “Resend Invitation” option. Check that you used the correct email address. Ask the recipient to check their spam folder.

Can I override a teacher's attendance record?

Yes. As an admin you have full read/write access to attendance for any child in your school across any date. Go to the child’s attendance record, select the date, and change the status.

How do school-wide announcements work?

Go to Announcements → “+ New Announcement”. Choose a category (General, Holiday, Event, or Emergency), write your title and message, optionally pin it, and post. All parents in the school receive a push notification immediately.

What is the difference between an Announcement and a Calendar Event?

Use Announcements for notices (policy updates, closures, emergency alerts). Use Calendar Events for date-specific activities with a structured date and time (field trips, photo day, parent meetings). Both send push notifications to parents.

How many children can I enrol on my current plan?

The number of active children you can enrol depends on your subscription plan. Your plan limits are shown in your admin settings. Contact us to upgrade if you’re reaching your limit. Staff and parent accounts are always unlimited.

  3. Scroll down and tap “Add to Home Screen”.
  4. Give it a name (e.g. “Mazhali”) and tap Add.

The app icon will appear on your home screen and opens full-screen, just like a native app.

Is Mazhali available in languages other than English?

Mazhali currently ships in English. Tamil language support is planned. Additional languages are planned for future releases. The app’s infrastructure is fully internationalised and ready for new languages.

How do I delete my account?

You can request account deletion from within the app: go to Profile → Settings → “Delete Account”. You can also submit a request via our account deletion page. All your personal data will be permanently deleted within 30 days.

Is my child's data private?

Yes. Daily reports and feed photos are private — only the child’s enrolled guardians and school staff can access them. Photos use time-limited signed URLs that expire after one hour. We do not sell or share any user data with third parties. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Which platforms does Mazhali support?

Mazhali is available on Android (Google Play) and as a Progressive Web App (PWA) that can be installed from any modern browser — including Safari on iPhone. An iOS App Store release is coming soon. All platforms are built from the same codebase and offer the same features.
